Colorado House Assistant Majority Leader

Dominick Moreno represents Colorado House District 32, which includes Commerce City and parts of unincorporated Adams County. In only his second term, he is already assistant majority leader and vice chairman of the House Services Committee. He also sits on the Transportation & Energy, Education, and Public Health & Human Services Committees.

Before he was elected to the legislature, Rep. Moreno sat on the City Council in Commerce City, where in 2009 he became the youngest city council member in its history. Born Feb. 17, 1985, he is the youngest current member of the Colorado General Assembly.

Born and raised in Commerce City, Rep. Moreno is truly its prodigal son. The grandson of a coal miner and the son of a truck driver and a teacher, he attended local public schools in Adams 14 – Central Elementary, Kearney Middle School and Adams City High School, where he made valedictorian while working afternoons at the Dairy Queen on 64th Avenue.

He attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., on a mix of scholarships and part-time jobs. The summer before his senior year, he taught English classes for children and adults in a small village in northwestern Mexico.

After graduating from Georgetown in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in American government, he returned to Commerce City and soon was persuaded to run for City Council.

Before his first four-year term was over, Moreno was appointed mayor pro tem.
